OUR VISION

We envision Providence as a place where all youth have access to strong arts learning during the school day and after school. We envision public educational systems that employ teaching artists who collaborate with teachers and schools to develop the social, emotional, cultural and creative skills of youth.

We realize this mission through:

  • An integrative approach to arts learning that takes place during the school day and after school, across artistic disciplines. This approach values positive youth development, creative skill building, cultural awareness, critical inquiry, and community engagement.

  • Professional development, internships, jobs, and volunteer opportunities for the next generation of diverse artists from the community to develop professionally as community leaders, teachers and artists.

  • Partners – schools, universities, community organizations, sponsors, and artists – that work closely with us to deliver a wide variety of free and accessible arts programs to young people

  • Classes and exhibition opportunities for youth from communities that frequently lack  high-quality arts learning.

Our work is inspired by CityArts founder Sister Ann Keefe who believed that the arts help prepare youth to
navigate and change their world, for the better. LEARN MORE >>

OUR VALUES

Youth Identity and Development

We create art as an act of care, love, and respect to express our ideas, celebrate our humanity, and make sense of our complex world. We honor and care for ourselves: where we’re from, who we are, and where we’re going.

Curiosity and Problem Solving

We discover through play, joyful exploration, and deep inquiry, unique perspectives different from our own and the possibilities of our imaginations.

Crossing Borders and Removing Barriers

We learn by respecting, embracing and sharing our diverse cultures, diverse abilities, and diverse perspectives. We connect with one another as artists through our unique experiences, art making, and the desire to build a better world.

Reflective and Contextual Assessment

We ask and reflect upon critical questions about the social issues affecting our communities and unique identities.
