Jazmin

Highlander Charter School

Jazmin has a long history with CityArts. A previous CityArts alumna and teen assistant in the summer program, Jazmin decided to commit to a year of service after high school with our AmeriCorps team at Highlander Charter School. She works with kindergarten through 4th graders in the STEAM class.  See Jazmin's story.

Patrick

Delsesto Middle School

Patrick is a sophomore from Yale University who chose to serve with the CityArts AmeriCorps team during a gap year. He has been working at Delsesto Middle School in English, Social Studies and Science classes, working with students to design realistic pyramids, hone their observational drawing skills of plants, and create informative posters around book themes. He also teaches in our after school Creative Scholars and Open Enrollment programs, working with students to design murals, props, sets, and posters.

Antonia

Roger Williams Middle School

Antonia is an industrial designer originally from Chile who is working as a Teaching Artist at Roger Williams Middle School this year. She is currently acting  as the Design Manager for Roger William's production of "The Lion King" as part of the Turnaround Arts Initiative. She works closely with the the Arts Leadership Team, teachers, and students to bring the musical to life by designing props, sets, costumes, and masks in and after school.  

Chloe

Roger Williams Middle School

Chloe received her BFA in Art Education at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and is a full time teaching artist at Roger Williams. She has been working in English ELL, Math, and Social Studies classrooms so far this year, using art to make learning more equitable for her English language learner students. This fall, she worked with student after school to design a mural inspired by the shape and function of the eye that now decorates the walls of the optometry office at the Providence Community Health Center.

Zooey

Roger Williams Middle School

Zooey is mixed media artist and Rhode Island native. They currently work as the Science Department Artist in Residence at Roger Williams Middle School. Working with the teacher leader and all teachers in the department, Zooey develops and implements projects such as clay dioramas of tectonic plates, history of the earth timelines, and genetics dog collages.

Providence City Arts trabaja con diez AmeriCorps Teaching Artists en 2017-2018 y 15 durante el verano. Durante el año escolar, trabajan en tres Escuelas Públicas de Providence para brindar cientos de horas de servicio comunitario al trabajar con los maestros para integrar el arte en sus aulas y apoyar las iniciativas artísticas de toda la escuela. En sus seis años de historia, el programa AmeriCorps de CityArts ha ayudado a lanzar las carreras de más de 50 artistas docentes, muchos de los cuales ahora trabajan en escuelas y organizaciones comunitarias en todo Rhode Island y el país.

Sandra

Highlander Charter School

Sandra is a Guatemalan textile artist and 2017 graduate of RISD. Originally from Cranston, RI, Sandra chose to do a year of service after college to be a Teaching Artist at Highlander. There, she works to integrate art into Literacy, Math, and Social Studies in a 5th grade and 1st grade classroom, while also teaching students about weaving processes. 

Kendall

Delsesto Middle School

Kendall is a painter originally from Texas who recently graduated from RISD. As a Teaching Artist at Delsesto, Kendall has worked to integrate art into social studies, science, and library media classrooms, giving students an opportunity to develop 21st century skills such as collaboration and critical thinking. In the after school Creative Scholars program, Kendall has worked on classes involving music videos, painting and drawing, murals, and props and set design. 

Liz

Delsesto Middle School

Liz is a dancer and 2017 graduate of Roger Williams University, where she majored in Dance Studies and Psychology. At Delsesto, Liz has worked with students in the science classroom to help them learn about anatomy through movement, and co-taught a unit on music and performance in a classroom for students with learning differences. After school, Liz has worked with students to create music videos and is currently choreographing for the school musical, "Aladdin"!

Jess

Roger Williams Middle School

Jess is a Providence-based painter and printmaker who graduated from Providence College. She works as a full time Teaching Artist at Roger Williams, where she primarily focuses on integrating art with Social Studies. She has crafted art integrated units of study on cave painting and symbolism, ancient inscriptions, and Black History Month. Jess is also currently teaching an after school class called "Art as Activism", in which students are creating print blocks and digital media around social movements that inspire them. 

Josh

Roger Williams Middle School

Josh is a musician and theater artist who graduated from Hampshire college. A full time member at Roger Williams, he has worked to integrate art into English, Social Studies, and Math classrooms. Projects have included the myth of Osiris as theater and identity graffiti to explore themes in the"The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian". This past fall, Josh also taught a class called Upcycle Funk, in which students built their own instruments our of recycled materials.
