Photographer and educator, Aarav Sundaresh and CityArts’ Core Teaching Artist, Michelle Nugent will show different ways to teach culturally relevant content to youth and discuss how curricula inside and outside of a school setting can address themes in social justice.

This event is part of Brown University's Rhythm of Change Festival. It is sponsored by the RI Teaching Artist Center/Providence CityArts for Youth. Brown University's Department of Theatre & Performance Studies Rhythm of Change Festival hosts “Power of Play: Youth Development and Educational Advancement”, a Rhode Island Teaching Artist Center’s “6x6” event, featuring 6 creatives presenting for 6 minutes on the element of play in their work and the opportunities they provide for youth to create new and exciting artistic endeavors.
Positive Youth Development

Nika Gorini, CityArts Program Director, will lead this youth-focused workshop around CityArts’ intentional, prosocial approach to engaging youth in a manner that is constructive to their social/emotional growth and development. We will also discuss how using a Positive Youth Development approach promotes equity and justice in the arts classroom, and helps to build safe spaces.
Feeding Her Fire: An Intergenerational Conversation

Exploring issues of feminism, equity, and gender, especially in light of the harassment allegations dominating this news cycle, a panel discussion will be held with selected artists from the "Feeding Her Fire" exhibition, Shey Rivera, Tamara Díaz, Caitlin Gomes, and Michelle Nugent and featured CityArts Young Artists. This intergenerational artist panel will be moderated by St. Mary Academy – Bay View senior and CityArts alum, Neomy Delacruz.
